About Sikubora

Sikubora Limited was formed in 2013 by a dedicated group of professionals focused on offering a modern solution to meet the growing demand for energy in areas not connected to the national electricity grid.

Sikubora is committed to transforming the lives of rural Tanzanians with a range of affordable systems, from low-power lighting and phone charging, to running electrical appliances and access to television.

Access to clean, renewable electricity gives opportunity to rural families. Lighting brings safety at night, the ability for children to study and adults to continue work after sunset, and healthier eyes and lungs without the burning of kerosene.

Mission: Sikubora transforms the lives of rural, off-grid Tanzanians through access to quality, affordable solar power paid for through monthly mobile payments as an investment in their family’s home and future welfare.

Vision: To be recognized as the rural solar company people turn to when thinking about their families, their health, their careers, and the environment.

Partnerships

Northeastern University

Sikubora has a unique relationship with this American university. The interns hired from Northeastern University are undergraduates with varying majors. They add to the Sikubora team by contributing their specific engineering and business skills to the workplace, and bring fresh ideas and a new outlook to the company.

Arusha Technical College

Sikubora takes interns from the  Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Diploma program and trains them in in the role of Solar Engineers. They have been vital in the development of smartboard technology and graduates of the program now make up over 25% of Sikubora’s full-time staff. Sikubora works with ATC professors as well, such as Edwin Mwakatage, the head of their renewables department, who sits on Sikubora’s board and continues to offer his expert opinion as we develop and grow.
